The production process for intumescent strips typically involves multiple steps and processes to ensure their properties. Here is general outline of the production process.
- Raw Material Preparation: Gather materials including different kinds of fireproof intumescent materials, bone materials, self adhesive, additives… ensure material expand to meet quality standards of intumescent strips and fire doors requirement.
- Mixing: Mix the raw materials according to the formula and prepare them under specific temperature and humidity conditions. This may involve blending the expanding materials with other additives to achieve the desired physical and chemical properties.
- Extrusion or Calendering: Use an extrusion machine or pressing machine or inserting machine to shape the mixed intumescent materials, forming the initial shape of the intumescent strips. This step helps ensure the uniformity and consistency of the seals.
- Cutting and Shaping: Cut the intumescent strips to the specific dimensions and shapes. Precise molding may be achieved using molds or cutting tools.
- Quality Testing: Perform quality tests, including dimension checks, expansion performance, fire resistance, etc.
- Packaging and Dispatch:Package the qualified intumescent strips and prepare them for dispatch to the market.

Intumescent Fire Seal Benefits
- Fire Prevention: Rapid expansion of fire expansion seals forms an effective fire barrier, preventing the spread of flames and smoke during a fire, slowing down the fire’s progression.
- Smoke Prevention: Intumescent strips not only block flames but also effectively seal door gaps, reducing smoke dispersion and enhancing internal smoke prevention in buildings.
- Property Protection:The fire-resistant properties of fire expansion seals effectively safeguard property within buildings, minimizing losses caused by fires.
- Increased Evacuation Time: Fire-resistant effect of intumescent seals extends the evacuation time during a fire, providing occupants with more secure evacuation opportunities.
- Durable: High-quality fire expansion seals have a longer lifespan, reducing the frequency of maintenance and replacements.
Intumescent Strips Application
Paper boxes, also known as cartons, are versatile packaging solutions that are used in a wide range of industries. RESSA INTUMESCENT STRIPS FAQs
- RYZW is the trade name RESSA give to ‘Hydrated Sodium Silicate’ which expands when exposed to high temperatures.RYZW is driven by the water boiling, creating course steam blisters as the material expands.
- Graphite has many forms: RESSA RPB graphite based intumescent seal is driven by chemical reaction, giving a longer and more controllable expansion. Graphites in today’s markets are variable in the pressure formulation and can be almost prescribed to suit, a feature RYZW simply cannot match.
Intumescent materials are a core component of passive fire protection, and can be categorised as substances that swell when exposed to heat. This reaction is used to great effect in order to seal penetrations in otherwise fire resistant walls, floors and ceilings. An intumescent strip (or intumescent seal) is a piece of material fitted around a doorway that when exposed to heat, expands closing any gaps around the door to stop the fire spreading for a period of time…..
This is why it’s best to have your fire doors fitted with intumescent seals that can stop both fire and smoke. These act to provide an additional role to reduce the sound which can travel between the door and frame, or door and floor. Uninterrupted intumescent strips should be fitted into the frame or lining, where possible. If this cannot be achieved, the intumescent seals may be fitted into the door edge.
In essence, all intumescent do the same job, but not necessarily in the same way. You’ll need to know which specifications you require; consult our technical team to discuss this area in depth at [email protected].
In the event of a serious fire, fire doors are one of the most important components in ensuring safe exit, containing the fire and saving lives. But they can be rendered useless by not using the correct components including intumescent strip. Gaps around the four sides of a fire door leaf are essential, it is the only way the door can open and close. But these gaps create a point of weakness, where fire can take hold and destroy the door, and toxic and smoke can pass through. RESSA intumescent strip works by sealing around the edges and gaps of a fire door and door frames in the event of a fire.
Over-painting of intumescent seals should not compromise performance in a fire situation – however, do not paint over smoke seals as this will certainly compromise smoke containment performance. If the smoke seal part of the seal has already been painted over, you will need to replace the smoke seal. Our seals are available in a range of colours, plus woodgrain and metallic finishes, so over-painting should not be necessary.
Usuallly for the gun safes and fire safes, we suggest both intumescent fire strips and waterproof seals.
- Intumescent fireproof seals like sodium silicate RYZW series, graphite RPB series and RPBJQC series.
- Waterproof seals like REPDM-DJ series.
